How do I put .WAV songs into my ipod touch?

When i try to put song files that are in .WAV form, itunes tells me that it can't sync them into the ipod touch. I've seen on their website that the ipod touch can play .WAV files, along with other ones like .MP3. How do i sync them into the ipod? PLEASE HELP!!!
