Please tell me what is in my hair?!?

I was at work in my little on shop in downtown seattle when I stroked my hand through my hair and was rudely disgusted to find a big waxy ball of.... i have no idea!!! I tried my best to extract it from my hair, I placed it in a jar at my on shop. I can best describe it as a yellowish orange ball of squishy wax. I shower once a week so the issue is not my health ritual. What is this?!
