Which laptop should I purchase?

I'm a student who is in the field for a laptop that not only is portable but also very fast. I'm also looking for something that won't be obsolete in 5 years. I am a gamer so something with some oomp would be nice, but since I'm a student I also need something that's college/dorm/cl friendly. (That means it has to take a beating!) Every website I look at just makes it even more complicated for me to chose the one that suits my needs. >.< Help me please!!! (please nothing that's like $4000! I'm a poor high schooler. )
